Peanut butter jelly is a very popular food among kids. That is why majority of households have numerous peanut butter jars and numerous mothers encounter problems such as where to store and or what they can do with the jars.
What most mothers do not realize is that they can earn money through recycling these peanut butter jars. Whether made of plastic or glass, these dull looking jars added with a pinch of creativity can become a source of income.
Here, in this article, we will be teaching mothers how to recycle peanut butter jars by making them as snow globes. Listed below are the materials needed as well as step by step instructions that are simple and easy to understand.
1. Gather the following materials: a. Silicone sealant (sealant used in aquariums) or Epoxy, b. Mineral oil or Baby oil, c. Distilled water, d. waterproof small figurines or plastic toys, e. egg shells, f. Hot glue or instant glue bond, g. acrylic paint or waterproof paint and h. peanut butter jars with cover lids.
2. Remove the lid a jar. Paint its interior part with acrylic paint the way you want it to look like. You can paint it with plain light color or you can experiment by mixing colors, or making abstract strokes. You can also try painting flowers or nice shapes. Then let the paint dry.
3. Once the paint is dry, get your small figurines or plastic toys and assemble them in the middle part of the interior side of the lid. Do not glue them yet, just arrange them in a way that you want them to look like. Once you are already sure about their placements, hot glue them one by one. It is better to have a main theme surrounded by small details, for example a bird placed at the center surrounded by flowers will make an excellent bird snow globe. Make sure to let the hot glue dry first. For seasonal snow globes, you can make use of Santa Claus toy figures to make Santa Claus snow globes.
4. Get the egg shells and make sure to remove the skin that sticks to the inner portion of the eggs. Once they are free of skins, crush them using a mortar and pestle but keep in mind not to overdo it – they will become powdery instead of little bits. This egg shells will act like glitters floating around your snow globe.
5. Get the jar and fill it with about 3/4′s distilled water. Do not use tap water because its impurities will cause discoloration. Pour about a teaspoon of baby oil into the water and add the crushed eggshells. You can also add some effect to the water by adding a few drops of coloring like blue color.
6. Put silicone sealant or epoxy to the entire thread of the cover lid of the jar (the one with the figurines glued in it). Make sure there are no silicone gaps in the thread to prevent water from leaking. Tightly screw the lid unto the jar with water and egg shells then let the epoxy or sealant dry for about 12-24 hours.
7. When the sealant has dried, turn the snow globe upside down and check for any water leaks. If there is none, you can paint the lid with acrylic paint or hot glue some beads or other accessories. Then you are ready to sell your snow globes!
